The Kenerator! |

Our KenKen puzzles are all composed by a computer program called the Kenerator, which has been developed using artificial intelligence techniques and with the assistance of Tetsuya Miyamoto, the inventor of KenKen. The Kenerator checks every puzzle to ensure that the totals in all the cages are correct, and that no row or column has the same number more than once. The Kenerator also verifies that there is only one solution to each puzzle.
In addition to all this, the Kenerator also assesses the difficulty of each puzzle so we can grade it “Easy”, “Medium”, or whatever. The program’s assessment of difficulty is based on a number of factors relating to the puzzle that we know affect its ease or difficulty. Although no such assessment can be 100% consistent with how easy or difficult human solvers find a puzzle, the Kenerator’s assessments are generally accurate.
